like, are 8 Cores even enough to run UE5 on a basic Lvl without my PC burning itself into plastitoast? … Quote from the Specs/System Requirements page:
[ “If you don’t have access to Xoreax Incredibuild (Dev Tools Package), we recommend compiling with a machine having 12 to 16 cores.” ]
(Wrote this as a seperate Post as it seens like my other 1 … makes me look dumb? i guess … & no1 has elaborated … idk why but still … lotta things i need to know & i dunno where else to get answers really)
Also seems like i’m definitely gonna need to get a 2-4TB External SSD too, the PCIe-NVMe version, with the mega high Read-Write speeds, as Game Files are quite massive with Engines like UE5 when Uncompressed.
( If any1 is even willing to take the time, any suggestions? )
Hi AlexanderConvinus,
I think the most important piece of hardware is the graphics card - what type of card does your computer have?
If it’s something like an intel card with shared memory (the 15.7Gb usable is a hint to this) you could well find it’s not going to handle the jandle…
You can get away with 8 cores, the 11th Gen i7 should be ok.
16Mb of RAM is Ok - 32-64Mb is better, just saying…
can you even swap out the RAM/ROM cards in an Aurora tho? it’s not built with a semi-standard Tower-box like most are.
I’ve managed to bring up the System Information page but it doesn’t list the Graphics Card Chipset … & i don’t know where in there to look to find it … i think i got an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060Ti, but that’s an educated-guess X_X (assuming that’s the actual Graphics Card & not a CPU/GPU, been awhile since i looked this stuff up) [ yes, i know, i’m dumb asf ]
Yeah that sounds like it should be good for Unreal - you can change things around like extra RAM etc if you want to, just look on youtube for tutorials. Adding an SSD sounds like a good plan too, but you may not get those speeds from an external drive - but your PC has an internal M.2 slot so even better…
M.2 Slot? um … what is that specifically … as yes, i’m that kinda dumb where i use a PC but only know the very basics … ( obviously i’m kinda probably tryina remedy that pretty late, i know … )
Also, the reason for wanting an External SSD is because this R12 only has a 500GB HDD, much slower by comparison & ALOT less Storage than i need for Development work;
cuz of the sheer size of Assests, Textures, Meshes, Models, Anim.s, etc.
( Wish i had went back onto Amazon & bought that Titan? PC i was looking at, was like 2100$+ but had a 1-2Tb? SSD built-in & came with 32Gb RAM/ROM [known simply as Memory for reason these days ], insteada getting this R12 on Cyber-ripoff Day, the Curved Monitor that i bought in that same order for 360$ is still a glorified Paper-weight that i STILL can’t anything out of … )
It looks like quite a nice PC - the M.2 slot is for the SSD, it’s inside the case but it’s easy to slot the SSD drives into them (the RAM is pretty easy too) - if you don’t mind taking the case off, you should be good, then you could have windows on the 500GB HDD and unreal on the SSD - just check on youtube for instructions - it looks like the alienware website has a good forum too.
Shame about the curved monitor, I have a pile of “sale” equipment like that too…
DAM, it has a BUILT-IN SSD Slot, that’s ACES!
( Also, about the SSD & RAM cards, any suggestions on a specific Model/Brand of either of them? As idk where to even start & don’t wanna drop hundreds on knock-offs that are crap )
I’ve got a samsung evo970 1TB and it’s awesome - not only for Unreal, but for games in general - I’d recommend an evo of some type. Kingston memory is also good:
shet, i was looking at a portable 4Tb Kingston earlier even, bookmarked the page too (tho it’s for a B&H Photo something Site/Store … dunno if they’re legit) [ nvm, shoulda hit the link 1st
{ if the Aurora has 4 RAM Ports total… i could just buy a couple 16Gbs to go alongside the twin 8s & quad-up, go Beast-mode }
They have to all be the same size, so you could add another 2 8s - or get 4 16s…
Kingston even has a 2000GB (2Tb?) SSD Model with what is apparently a built-in Heatsink, idc if that bad boy’s a bit pricey, cuz that’s LIT
[ as a Reply to your Reply: “go for the biggest one you can afford - no matter how big you get, you’ll still run out of space - but the bigger ones take longer to fill ”]
That’s INSANE, guess i better see if i can afford the 4Tb 1 then
