Can I Use Quixel Megascans Plants in My Scene for Fab Marketplace Upload?

Post Content:

Hello Epic Team,

I’m preparing a complete Unreal Engine 5.0 scene for Fab Marketplace submission, and I’d like to confirm the correct usage rights regarding Quixel Megascans vegetation assets (plants, trees, foliage, etc.).

Here’s my situation clearly:

  • I’m creating a fully built interior/exterior environment using Unreal Engine 5.0.

  • The scene includes Quixel Megascans plants and surfaces, imported through the Fab/Bridge integration.

  • I am not modifying or exporting these assets outside Unreal (no FBX, OBJ, or texture redistribution).

  • My goal is to sell the entire Unreal scene project (.uproject and content) as a Fab Marketplace product, not as standalone Megascans assets.

My Question:
Am I allowed to include Quixel Megascans vegetation assets inside my Unreal Engine project that I upload and sell on Fab Marketplace, provided they remain within the Unreal Engine ecosystem and are not redistributed separately?

I’ve read that Quixel Megascans assets can be used in any Unreal Engine project commercially, but redistribution outside the Epic ecosystem isn’t permitted. Since Fab is now part of the Epic ecosystem, I want to make sure this usage is compliant before submitting my project.

Hi @Deepak16121989.

Please confirm the platform (Quixel.com or Fab.com) you are using to download the Quixel Megascans.

The legacy Megascans library on Quixel.com is still governed by the content EULA.

However, the use of the Megascans library available on Fab.com is subject to the Fab Standard License.

Thanks for the response, Waqas. I’ve downloaded all my vegetation assets directly from Fab.com, not Quixel.com. Just to confirm — since they fall under the Fab Standard License, I can use them in my scene for selling on the Fab Marketplace, as long as I’m not reselling or uploading the assets individually, right?

@Deepak16121989,

Yes, the Fab Standard license allows you to “commercially distribute your Projects with the Fab assets incorporated into it”.

Please note that I can only confirm information that is already stated in the EULA. For compliance purposes, I recommend consulting a local lawyer who specializes in copyright law. :grinning_face:

This is not correct and would put the OP in legal trouble.

The Fab Standard license allows users to commercially distribute the END, PACKAGED PRODUCT with Fab assets incorporated into it, it does NOT allow reselling or redistributing the actual source assets on any marketplace in any form.

From the very top of the Fab EULA page:

You may not:

  • Resell or redistribute the asset for free on a standalone basis or allow others to do the same

And from the Fab Distribution Agreement:

a. Your Responsibilities. As between you and Epic, you are solely responsible for:

i. Content Creation: creating Content by (i) using your own equipment, materials, supplies and other resources at your own expense and (ii) exercising your own talent, skills, judgment and aesthetic sense;

In short:

  • Assets purchased or acquired through Fab can be used in your commercial, packaged project like a game, film, etc… they cannot be resold or included in a product.
  • Only original assets that the seller created themselves can be sold.
  • CC-0 assets may be included with the product as long as it is for demonstration purposes and as long as the author is credited.

@Monz You’re correct regarding the responsibility section in the Fab Distribution Agreement.

The information I shared refers to the Fab Standard License, which applies to Quixel Megascans content.

Under the Fab Standard EULA, projects that incorporate Megascans assets can be distributed commercially. There is also a separate section (Section 4) that explains how you may share or distribute projects created with licensed content. @Deepak16121989 Please ensure you go through this as well.

That said, for full compliance and legal clarity, I would again recommend consulting a lawyer who specializes in copyright law.
