Can I setup Path Trace for export only?

Unless I have missed something it seems to me that if you want to use Path trace for nicer lighting solutions you need to activate it first in the preview and wait every time for the preview to update as you adjust settings and lights.

It would seem to me that ideally you would carry out setup with path trace either off or in the low quality settings and when you wish to export a final render to should be able to increase it in the export settings, without affecting the preview window.

This seems to be not the case where is you have multiple images setup to be exported you must go into the settings of each image and setup each path trace solution individually and then wait for the software to process it in "real time".

This incurs a huge lag time as you the previews are updated to the new settings prior to running the entire process again during export?

Have I missed something or is this intended?

If intended it essentially rules out using anything other the low quality due to processing time, as unlike exporting, where you can leave a pc running unattended for the time needed, you cannot do during setting up.

If there is a tutorial or video covering the process of setting up multiple high quality path trace export images in an efficient manner I would much appreciate understanding my mistake?

Hello ,

When you're using Path Tracer for your media in Twinmotion, you don't need to wait for the image to fully render in real-time before you can do anything else. That render progress bar you see in the Dock menu next to the Path Tracer toggle shows you how long until the "final" Path Tracer image is ready in the viewport, but you only need to let this finish if you want to see what your final image will look like with Path Tracer on. If you already know what the Path Traced image looks like, such as from previously viewing the image, you can quit media mode before the Path Tracer finishes rendering without any issues. When exporting your renders, they will always run a full Path Tracer render the same way as when you activate it in your viewport, so you'll get a consistent image.

The way Path Tracer is generally used is that you set up your scene with Path Tracer disabled, since Path Tracer is generally time consuming and resource intensive. Once you're ready to test out your scene with Path Tracer, you can then enable it with the quality settings you're aiming for to let the renderer process the image in your viewport. If you need to make changes, you can disable Path Tracer, make the adjustments you need, then re-enable Path Tracer to see how it looks, repeating this until you're happy with the results. Once you have an image you're happy with, you don't need to let that image render in the viewport to completion anymore if you're not making any changes, since this won't change the export quality.

Let me know if that answers your question, or if I misunderstood. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I have to say that i understand his question. Wouldn't it be more clear to e.g. have a drop down where you can set the quality of the PT without having to render it first?

It has been a year, and I am uncertain how much of this has been incorporated into the software. Something is needed. I have tried several different rendering software and Twinmotion is by far the best. However, there are some frustrating features missing like this. typically workflow is set the scene in real-time, SAVE, test pt, and set back to real-time. Then this is where you would go to the export tab, select the quality with the option to render in low, mid, or high. this would save me a significant amount of time waiting to click buttons because it is so bogged down doing the preview.

I know this should be in a different thread. but for the love of god let us copy the image scene setting to other images.

thank you.

I was just looking for an answer to this problem and came across this thread. i totally need a solution to this inconvenience.

When you have a large scene and poke around in the settings then updating the PT image doesn't help, because the whole program slows down after all.

Thanks,

I'll bring this up with the team to see if this is a possible change that can be brought in for a future release to make the user experience more intuitive and less time consuming. Please also submit this feedback on our public roadmap, as this is the best way to share your feedback in detail with the team for new features or feature enhancements.

Best,
