My personal opinion is yes. I have a i7 with nvidia 780m with 2.7ghz and I think my video memory is 4gb as well and unreal works pretty good. You just have to deal with long compile times on materials. I.e. the open world demo takes my computer about 10 min to load and compile all the materials. A laptop may be great to work on assets and even edit levels etc. But not great to build an entire game if you are working on a large scope project. I’ve participated in a few game jams and my laptop has held up pretty good for those. Though I strongly recommend getting a desktop at some point to make some serious game designs. =)
Hi mamu_ivn,
Unfortunately your laptop is well below our recommended specs. While the CPU meets the bottom end of our requirements, you’ll generally need at least 8GB of RAM. 4GB just might allow you to launch, but not a whole lot more. While the 610m is a later generation than our recommended card (GTX 470), the performance of the 470 falls somewhere between the GTX 650 and GTX 660.
I have to disagree with EyeDee10Tee in their comparison. Their laptop is much more powerful than yours. Even if it DOES have 4GB of RAM (which would be a bottleneck for their machine), it has a much better CPU and GPU. We have tested on some laptops comparable to yours in the past and it generally isn’t a good experience.
However, if you’d like to give it a shot(it is free after all), we’d love to hear your experience on our Recommended Hardware wiki
