The Unreal’s EULA, under the chapter 11, Proprietary Notices and Attribution, states that it’s mandatory to place the following notices under the product credits:
“[Product name] uses the Unreal® Engine. Unreal® is a trademark or registered trademark of Epic Games, Inc. in the United States of America and elsewhere”
“Unreal® Engine, Copyright 1998 - xxxx, Epic Games, Inc. All rights reserved.”
For credits, I understand, a credit section inside the game. However, what if my game is just a prototype yet, or some jam’s entry if a simple gameplay sample, or whatsoever, the point is, what if my game doesn’t have a credit’s section inside?
Can I put the notice in the product description for example? Like in the description of the game on a itch.io page.
Just to get some more clarity on this, is this applicable to shipped titles as well?
While the above mentioned case refers to a prototype, we are ready to ship our game on App Store & Play Store. We have no specific credits section, since there isn’t much to write there except for UE4 & Epic credits. An extra button for a dedicated credits section obstructs the carefully planned layout of our app and also seems unwarranted given the lack of material to put in there (we are an indie studio).
So is it fine if we mention the credits in the product description on both App Store and Play Store, rather than inside the app?
