hi
recently epic released some really nice assets only available for 5.4 ↑.
but my project is in 5.2 and I don’t want to upgrade it until it’s finished.
I know that you can import lower version’s assets to higher version.
not sure if I can import assets from higher to lower.
I tried to import one asset pack that’s available for 5.4, and eventually I got an empty folder in my project.is this normal?
thank you for replying.
Unless the assets are using specific 5.4 tools that wouldn’t be compatible with previous versions, you can import them into a 5.4 empty project and then migrate them over to your 5.2 project. Unreal will grab anything referenced for the particular asset(s).
Thank you,I’ll try it tomorrow
unfortunately it doesn’t work.
I import a sound pack into 5.4 and migrate the pack to 5.2,I got an empty folder again.
You could also try moving the sound files over via the file explorer instead. If that doesn’t work, there might be a 5.4 dependency for your assets
In general, you can’t move uasset file backwards through engine versions. But, if its sounds, you stand a chance.
In Windows, you can probably find the WAV files in the asset folder, and try dragging them into the content browser of the destination project. To be clear, you drag from Windows file explorer into the project content browser.
@ClockworkOcean hi,I can’t find wav files.they are all uassets.
@Hidrem i just checked. They’re in the drive folder,just don’t show up in editor content.
I guess I must accept that I must upgrade the project if I want to use new assets…
a bit unfair there was almost no sound packs before 5.4 released. (joking…still appreciate epic releasing free sounds)
( Sometimes they ship WAV files in with the assets… )
