Can I get an educational subscription with a school email only?

My school is the University of Southern Maine. I’ve resourced out to professors and departments in hopes my school would seek free educational licensing with Unreal Engine. However, despite my efforts my school does not seem to care enough as it does not have a department developed for game design.

From what I understand leaves me in the cold when it comes to getting UE4 from my school. I already have purchased UE4 once for the very fair price of $19 USD, and I don’t regret my purchase one bit. The problem I’m presented with is that my funds are quite limited and my time even more so. Being a student and a worker I haven’t as much time to develop in UE4 as I’d like. My allocated free time doesn’t allow me to produce/learn at a rate where I might actually profit from my monthly prescription.

To summarize my post, I would like to know if there is any way for me to get a free license without my school’s support, but while having a student email address?

If you have an email address from school (an *.edu email address) the way to get UE4 for free as a student is to submit your info to the GitHub Student Developer Pack offer which will get you a year long subscription to UE4, as well as access to other development programs.

There was recently a long wait time for access, and may still take some time. If you have a valid .edu email address though it does go much faster. Let me (or any of the other moderators, or staff members on the forums) know if you have any trouble getting access through that method though, we can help you out.

Wow that was incredibly easy! When I navigated the educational package links on the front page I became under the impression the only way was as I previously mentioned.

Thank you so much!

still is a long wait. Over a month wait so far

, did your school you an edu email address?

Yeah I registered for the github student dev pack offer back in December and i’m still waiting. It sucks having to wait so long I was really looking forward to developing on UE4.

Yes, I applied with a .edu. The only email address that epic and github know are that .edu address. I even made a post about in subforum -> A tale of two educational software downloads - Community & Industry Discussion - Epic Developer Community Forums .

Hey I just got in I contacted github and complained that I’ve been waiting for months and they accepted me a friend of mine also did it so I would do that and see what happens

“Your wait time could be a few weeks while we are processing the backlog of submissions” -Github. Why say “few weeks”?
