When exporting out a Railclone or Forest Pack generator from 3DS Max as a datasmith file, it comes into unreal as a single actor with all instances assigned to a HISM component. It’s clean, fast, and requires no additional work.
However, when exporting regular instances (i.e. non-Railclone/Forest Pack objects) via datasmith, they import into unreal as separate static mesh actors. They all reference a single static mesh asset, so it’s easy to merge them into a HISM component using the Merge Actors tool, but I’d prefer if this was done automatically at import.
Is there a parenting method, a naming style, or a custom attribute I can assign to the instances in 3DS Max to have datasmith export them as HISMs?
