  2. Is there an approval process for the content on the market, have it been tested for viruses?

I can answer for the number 2: yes, there is an approval process for the content. They are tested to see if they achieve what the seller tells about it and also regarding the type of performance the type of asset is expected to have. About viruses, the only type of assets that could deliver viruses are code plugins, but as those have their source code provided, you can previously check this and recompile them. All remain type of assets will not contain viruses because they are engine generated type of content, most of them with sufix “.uasset”.
