Bump Offset looks weird

Hi everyone,

I’ve started my first UE4 Project a few month ago and had a few problems with it. One of them I couldn’t solve so far. When I try to use bump offset for my materials and increase the height ratio just a little bit, they start to look extremely strange, as you can see in the picture: http://crebbez.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Unbenannt-1.png

Only if I set the amount to a very low level it looks ok. But then you can also barely see the bump offset effect. In this picture the height ratio is set to 0.001: http://crebbez.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/entzerrt.jpg

This is how i created my material, I’ve seen it like that in a few tutorials. Am I doing anything wrong? http://crebbez.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/material.jpg

I hope you can help me,
Lukas

Bump offset sux a lot. We all know about it. This is not a proper parallax solution. We only recently got from Epic real occluded parallax in UE4.10 I guess.
If you want to see how they overcome the bump offset problem till now, why don’t you open some of the materials that comes with Epic’s content creation, that you usually import when creating new project?

Anyway, POM is there: POM material - Rendering - Epic Developer Community Forums
