Finally figured out how to get a make-shift full-custom window in this, after needing to delete it 2 times & redo it 3 times across 2 days;
Only for this to happen:
It won’t let me use the same Texture as the rest of the building after putting in the windows with 2 180’d opposing Disk objects set as Glass Material & going back to Cubix Modeling to finish the Cathedral … & this now wont do what i want either:
See how i got them to square-off the 1st time around but NOW they wanna go full diamond shape … GRRR @
$^@%$
I really don’t see how ANY1 accomplishes anything with this … 500 million sets of settings, each individually 1 like a landmine, click the wrong 1 & everything goes to shet, irrevocably …
( was simply tryina create a sorta very pre-alpha building mock-up, see if i even could … can’t even get that to work … )
[ To those who can somehow actually get somewhere, you deserve Medals for patience, determination, & dedication, cuz this is a headache to even attempt to make heads or tales of … ]
Hey there @AlexanderCovinus! Sorry to hear about your experience with the modeling toolkit! The modeling toolkit isn’t quite as robust as other 3D applications that are purpose built for it, mostly because the modeling toolkit is often used for gray boxing block outs and just defining spaces. When working on anything with intent, I almost always recommend using an external modeling program like Blender.
… how about if you’re trying to make Character Models … you know of any particular Program/App the Pro Devs are fond of using? ( just curious, as i’ll be hard-pressed to figure any a this stuff out … )
Absolutely! Many professionals do actually use Blender for both hard surface and character modeling. I myself have worked on multiple commercial games with most of the 3D art pipeline based in Blender. However I’ll give a solid list of some choices you have (though many of the studio tier ones are quite expensive!).
I would personally start with Blender as it’s free and has a wealth of free tutorials to get acquainted. It’s UI/UX is a bit more terse than the others (barring Zbrush) but you can get a firm foundation in 3D art there before investing a ton of money in any of the other programs!
3D suites (Do it all to an extent):
Maya Autodesk
3DSMax
Cinema4D
Procedural Modeling:
Houdini
Focus on Sculpting:
Zbrush
VFX:
Houdini
Materials/Texture:
Substance
3DCoat

Blender is F2P? Is it because Epic Owns that App now er …
anyway, found a few vids by a couple a kewl doods that may just help me start to make heads or tales of this stuff: Smart Poly & Unreal Sensei, so here’s hoping i can finally start getting something useful to stick inside my bad brain.
( the 2nd being nearly 5 hr.s long but being a step-by-step full-course on how to set up an entire region & forest it in Blueprint Mode +_+ )
Oh Epic doesn’t own Blender, just gave them a massive Mega Grant. The Blender Foundation runs on donations to keep the software free.
Those creators are two I recommend often so you’re in good hands. For learning Ryan Laley, Matthew Wadstein, and Gorka games are all also very good for on the spot tutorials as well. We also have a learning center for videos here on the forums if your taste for knowledge continues! Good luck and have fun developing!

Well, some of my biggest Concepts … idk how i’ll ever be able to build to be honest, as they’re both massive & probably expensive as all hell to build in/on more than just my braincells/memory
… at this point, I’ll just be glad IF i can get to the point i can build the few smaller Concepts i have, like Shadowfall & Project Jericho … X_X;;;
( I have like 3 dozen? Game Concepts in my brain, burning holes in my gray matter )
