Building a high resolution character for Unreal Engine Four Intro [Tutorials]

This is just the intro of the series. Building a high resolution character and then transferring the high res texture and normal map detail to the low res mesh
I’ll be building a facial animation rig with additional morph targets too.
3ds Max, Mudbox, Softimage, Unreal Engine Four

Nice! I’m sure this will be very helpful

It certainly will.
I’m working on two characters for Rockstar games as we speak, using these methods
Heisenberg will introduce “cooking” games to UE4, instead of crystal meth

Great video. Reminded me of professor Xavier from X-men

Is allways nice to see the workflow of people working in the media. I appreciate the effort.

It’s Walter White from Breaking Bad:)

Thanks guys
I should have part one up in a week or so . This series will also be useful for low poly character building too, (seeing as the high res model will need optimizing for UE4)

Do you retopologize in Mud Box or Max?

3ds Max, using the polydraw modelling tools. It’s so simple that when I demonstrate it, you’ll be blown away
This way polygons snap to the surface of your lowest subdivision high poly mesh.

I aslo create the low poly mesh to start with in most cases, then take that to Mudbox to subdivide and add all the detail, then send that back to Max to update the geometry of the low res mesh
So there are two approaches:
(A) Build low poly original and send to Mudbox.
(B) Build high poly mesh in Mudbox and send lowest subdivision to Max for retopology

The latter obviously increases work time tenfold, so the former is the ideal option

Wow…This kind of tutorial is what i’ve been looking for. Any ETA on release?

About a week ryanjon2040
I’ll update this post when it’s on air

Thank you very much LexLuthor1. I really appreciate you making this tutorial.

It’ll be a pleasure and like always, 100% free

I can´t wait because i use the same tools you use, but with poors results… :frowning:

No worries, most of it is patience and it’s really quite easy. My aim is to make even the worst 2d artists, or people who have no concept of anatomy or sculptural processes, sail through this like a boss

You are not alone…Am also on that same boat.

Great to hear that. And a big thanks for making it free.

This is the real Final Countdown (ninoniiinooo)

I use 3DS Max so this will be a great tutorial for sure.

Not long now folks, 4 or five days
