Build and export orthophoto of imported .obj textured model made with polycam

Hello,

I’m an architect working in the heritage conservation field.

Recently I started using Polycam to make fast LiDAR scan of small surfaces (5x10 m) for a research on the stone streets in Florence. We are working on an atlas of the different tecniques of paved stones so we need small semples.

Polycam allows you to dowload in many different format but I couldn’t find a way to export an high quality orthophoto.

I downloaded the .obj textured model from Polycam hoping that I could build the orthophoto in RealityCapture but I can not import it. I never used RealityCapture in this way, usually I followed the normal path (import camera - aligning - dense cloud - mesh - texture - orthophoto) and I don’t know if what I’m asking is possible.

Please tell me if I’m missing something,

Sincerelly,

Iacopo

Hello Iacopo,
to import model into RealityCapture you need to have already created alignment in your project. So is a good way to also have some images from the object to create the photogrammetry model.
Then you can follow this workflow: Texturing Handheld Laser Scan Models | Tutorial
and then export orthophoto from your imported model.

thank you, I was hoping for a faster process, doing things that way would take away all the time saved using MLS… I will probably just render the model with blender and then scale it back.

Thank you for your help
