[Bug] When Renaming Assets, if press backspace, renaming cancelled

Dear Epic Devs,

#Repro

Press F2 to rename an asset, it will usually automatically add a 2 or some similar number.

If, instead of typing new letters, you try to backspace past the original name, the renaming process will be abruptly cancelled when the old name becomes the current name, and the previous autogenerated name will be restored.

You must then press F2 again to try again

I have had to resort to:

-AssetName (press F2 in conten browser)

-AssetName2 (dont backspace past original new generated name)

-AssetName2MyNewName (dont backspace! add new letters)

-AssetNameMyNewName (okay now backspace)

-AssetNaMyNewName (backspacing…)

-MyNewName (finally have a completely new name via backspacing)

Thanks for UE4!

It’s awesome!

Rama

it also happens when you create new assets where the first part of the name is the same, for example I have a skeletal mesh called “VH_Kart”, I made a new BP for it I wanted to call “VH_Kart_Wheel” but as soon as I typed the t at the end of kart it gives a warning about the same name and resets it to newblueprint or whatever it is called when you create one.

Hi Rama,

Thank you for your report. I was able to reproduce this issue in Beta 6, but it has since been resolved in our main build. This fix will be reflected in a future release of the beta.

Cheers!
