[BUG] UE4 editor crashing after the aniversary update of windows while using VR

The UE4 editor is constantly crashing after the aniversary update of windows while using VR ().
Sometimes when I press the “Play in VR” button the game does not startup in the headset, only on desktop and it is running at 1FPS.

In addition, when using the editor while pressing CTRL+Z for undo, the whole PC reboots without any warning.

Hello DExUS5

I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?
  3. Could you provide the complete callstack that is given when the editor crashes?
  4. Could you provide screen shots of any blueprints/Setting that may be involved?
  5. If you verify your engine, does this have any affect?
  1. I can’t reproduce it , seems like some memory leak somewhere

  2. the crash is related to whole OS , it just reboots the computer, no callstack available

  3. my BP is pretty messy  , however I dont use any constructor scripts, and even sometimes loading the project and using just simple mesh movement can cause the whole computer to reboot.

  4. I had verified the engine and re-installed VGA (nvidia) drives, just in case.

  • after the step 5) , the reboots are gone, however if the Steam VR does not start with the editor I am left with the 1FPS stuttering game without output to the headset.

Hello DExUS5,

Could you create a new thread for the FPS issue for tracking purposes? I will be marking my replay as the answer for this post. You can provide a link in a reply here and I will follow up on the additional issue.

Make it a great day

Sadly I have to report that ther reboots are still there but are less frequent.
They are unexpected and happen on all kinds of actions like : moving, resizing of mesh, editing blue print, pressing ctrl+z for undo.

Does the restarting issue occur when you do not have the VR headset plugged in?

the headset is plugged in all the time.

FYI, happens also on empty new blank project.

[edit]
Also I had played with things that I have non standard:

  1. using 3 monitors with 1x mirror 1x extend - no luck there

  2. using BETA steam VR - no luck there

  3. using several audio outputs (6 if is connected) - no luck there

  4. disabled page file (having 16GB ram) - there was some change

after enabling the page file there are no reboots but the computer will get stuck. Only hard power reset helps.
So under my opinion it is probably some kind of memory leak.

I am out of options :S

is there anything I can do so you can investigate ?
I can’t continue my work …

Hello DExUS5,

Could you try using the editor without the VR device plugged in and let me know if the issue is still occurring?

without the headset connected there are no reboots or any other issues.

New GeForce drivers v372.54 had resolved the issue.

I still have instant reboots after installing the newest GeForce drivers.
