[BUG] [SOLVED] DX11 editor lag

I have two computers with Rocket Installed. One of them is DX11 and other is DX10

DirectX 11 Comp Specs:

OS: Windows 7 x64

CPU: Core i5 760 - OC’d @ 3.6 GHZ (Lynnfield)

GPU: EVGA GTX 465

RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance

DirectX 10 Comp Specs:

OS: Windows 8 x64

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.6 GHZ (Kentsfield)

GPU: EVGA 9600GT

RAM: 4GB Corsair

In my DirectX11 PC, Rocket UI is sluggish (not much but little) but it doesnt affect the game. Game is all smooth and good.

In my DirectX10 PC, Rocket UI is so smooth. No lag or anything.

Probably you dont run your PC with the “High performance” power setting

Hi guys. I fixed the lag issue. The problem was with EVGA Precision X. Theres a setting called “Frame Rate Target” and i have that enabled with 35 FPS. This was the issue. I disabled it and now theres no lag. Everything is smooth and good.

A couple of things:

  1. We recently made a change that improves editor framerate and UI responsiveness when you have more than one window open. That should be in the next Rocket build.
  2. DX11 support enables a few high end features like Reflection Environment. It’s possible that those features don’t perform well on your GPU. This should affect the game.
  3. You can force the engine to run in DX10 mode by adding “-d3d10” to the commandline. I’d be surprised if that helped unless it was a feature that gets disabled that is causing your problems.
  1. Nice to hear that.

  2. Well…Even if i create a new project and start a new level (empty level with nothing but blackness and BSP brush) the editor still lags. I also tried it with default map and it only lags in the editor. The game is running perfectly fine with no lag. I recently imported a high poly Lamborghini Gallardo Model and still there was no lag in game. But when i duplicated the model 2 times then obviously there was lag on game because my GPU was not that powerful.

  3. Sure…I’ll force the engine to run in DX10 mode and let you know.

Weird. I tried the -d3d10 commandline and the editor is still lagging.

Sounds like it might be something else specific to that machine. Out of curiosity is your DX11 machine running dual monitors? Some GPUs seem to handle that better than others.

Also make sure you have the latest drivers from NVIDIA.

No i dont have dual monitor setup. As for the driver its a WHQL driver but forgot the version number. Will check it and report back soon.

I just installed the latest WHQL driver (320.49) and it still lags.

I just installed a new 2GB card with the same driver last night on a lower spec. system. Didn’t notice any lag except making a material. Lag issues with the shader compiler(CPU process)…again.
Was using a super cheap 512mb eah4670 card with dx 10 and no lag. Dx11 looks so much better!!
