I was working on some meshes with the vertex colors made inside 3dsmax when I discovered that just using the
Right click > re-import will not update the vertex colors of the static mesh.
It wont update the mesh in the editor nor in the browser.
I did a few tests and let another person try it as well to confirm it.

but the mesh will not take the edited vertex colors and keeps its original ones.
If I actually Import through the Content Browser and check “Replace Vert colors” it will work.
I assume that this is a bug.
Thank you for your report. We were not able to investigate this on the engine version you reported, but there have been many version changes to UE4 since this question was first posted. With a new version of the Engine comes new fixes and it is possible that this issue has changed or may no longer occur. It works as it should now
this is happening with me. exporting with blender. first time it imports the vertex colors but if reimport the colors don’t update. unreal 4.7.6
manually reimport it the first time, in the options set “replace vertex colors”. problem solved.
