This might sound stupid but for some reason Ctrl + C, Ctr + V etc. (Basically any shortcut with Ctrl) doesn’t work in the editor any more). And yes I tested my Ctrl key works fine elsewhere. I tried looking at the keyboard shortcuts in the preferences to fix this and see if copy, paste, undo, redo etc. are still bound to the standard shortcuts and indeed they are. However when I try to change some shortcut Ctrl doesn’t register at all ! Anybody has any clue how to fix it short of reinstalling rocket editor ? I apologize in advance if I am missing something completely dumb.
I am using Windows 8 64 bit. But its interesting as this issue doesn’t occur on my laptop which is also has a Windows 8 64 bit OS.
And no your second question doesn’t sound odd at all I actually thought of the same when I was trying to fix the situation. To answer your question both Ctrl keys don’t work.
Sorry for all of the clarifications we’re asking for, just trying to narrow down what may be the root of your problem–are you running a completely fresh install of Windows 8 64 bit or are did you upgrade from Windows 7? Also are you patched up to Windows 8.1?
Sorry about the delay. I was traveling I am indeed patched up to Windows 8.1. And I believe I am using a fresh install of Windows 8. However I think I installed windows on this hard drive on a different machine long time back and migrated the installation here. I am not sure if that could be an issue.
If you are able to, I would try re-installing Rocket to see if that fixes the issue (assuming you haven’t tried this option yet). Your projects shouldn’t be wiped out by un-installing (you can make a back-up copy of the project folders somewhere else just in case) and this would be the quickest potential fix with the next step potentially being a Windows re-install.
Let us know if you’re able to do a Rocket re-install and what the results of that are with regards to regaining full use of all of the keys.
Sorry for the late reply. I finally got around to re-installing Rocket but no luck. However few days later the Ctrl key has started to function again. I have no idea how… (perhaps my keyboard drivers were automatically updated or something ) Sorry I know I am not being much help here. If I find out how this fixed itself I will let you know.
Thanks for the update, Shailen. I’m going to mark this question as Answered/Closed for now–if you do figure out what fixed your issue, please feel free to reply to this thread to re-open it.
I’m having the same issue on win7.
It happens both with 4.1 (prebuilt) and 4.2 (from source)
I’m running in bootcamp on an early 2013 macbook retina.
The mac version of the editor doesn’t have these issues but I can’t use that as it’s performance is much worse, and I much prefer visual studio to xcode.
Can’t be sure this is what’s causing it for you. But Unreal really doesn’t seem to like Synergy (virtual KVM software)
For some reason unreal can’t read alt and ctrl keys after they’ve been captured by another program. It’s a bit weird as all unreal based games I’ve tried are fine, but the editor has trouble.
