BSP vs Static Meshes?

I know Static Meshes are better when it comes to Performance, UV Control and smoothing but what If I use a mix of both BSPs and Static Meshes, similar to the Source engine, I mean BSPs for the base layout and Static Meshes for decoration and props, any graphical differences? does it cause any kinds of issues (aside from performance)? I find this workflow easier and is what I’m mostly used to, I don’t intend to make large or performance heavy environments so I wonder if it’s ok. Thanks.
