If this is an solution for “spam maps” - I am sorry to tell but once again - Epic failed.
Epic lost half of it’s playbase due to showing “new players” the same (1v1, red vs blue and brainrot) spam.
Instead of capping ONE account per person, capping ONE map per week (or 2/3 per month) - you choose to keep destroying the ecosystem by implementing NOTHING-worth updates to “spam system” detection (that does not work)…
This Discovery change feels very concerning and difficult to understand from a creator perspective.
Epic needs to push variety content more than ever—not hide it.
I think we’ve already seen from experiences like “Steal a Brainrot” that players can get tired of Battle Royale, and that variety is a key part of the platform’s future.
Removing multiple tabs—especially “Trending Variety”—and pushing “New & Updated” to the bottom significantly reduces visibility for creators who are actively trying to innovate and grow the platform.
Many creators put in a huge amount of time and effort every day, and changes like this can feel discouraging, as if that effort and engagement are being devalued.
It’s also genuinely concerning to see such impactful changes happen without prior feedback or discussion, especially when they can directly affect the livelihoods of many people in the ecosystem.
I truly believe there’s an opportunity here to better support creators while continuing to grow the platform in a healthy, sustainable way.
I’m hoping it wasn’t, because if it is then it will result in another creator exodus.
As it stands right now, there is no way to grow new maps. No one is going to scroll all the way down and the algorithm isn’t going to do anything with a 10 ccu map.
More importantly, these changes were made overnight without a single word from Epic.
There is a feedback server but the most important changes are never brought to creators, like this one. If this is another way of fighting spam then it’s a half-measure, the simplest and most efficient fix is banning problematic people but instead the ecosystem keeps changing, affecting genuine creators who end up leaving while the problematic ones stay and abuse the system in other ways.
I hope they’re working on a redesign because this scrolling feed aint working. You need a design that gives all genres equal opportunity, and makes it easy for players to find what they want to play. Changing rows around wont ever solve that.
My honest opinion is that the new Discovery is the end for most variety maps. Since I’m mainly focused on Prop Hunt, I’ll speak about that specifically. There’s absolutely no way to find Prop Hunt anymore—there’s no mention of it anywhere in Discovery or in the categories, it’s completely gone. Only a single map shows up in Party Games, and all the others have completely disappeared. If it stays like this, it will be the end for a large portion of developers.
We posted an update covering some big changes coming to Discover:
• Reduced spam
• New standardized genres and dedicated rows
• More visibility on fun and original games
• A more dynamic Discover that regularly changes
