Bones flip flopping on axis

Hello. When editing animations I noticed the bones coordinates can flip flop between negative and positive when bending a limb bone. For instance, trying to bend or adjust the shin bone the axis slider only moves in the positive, so for the shin to bend backwards (like a shin does) it flips oddly around to the negative coordinates. All this really messes with adjusting animations down the line and keyframing. That’s about the best I can explain it since I have no clue why it does that or obviously how to fix it. And I’m using Daz to Unreal plugin, character imported from Daz and animations retargeted. If that matters. Thanks for any help!
