I’ve been having an issue where skeletons/animations that I import from Maya collapse without root motion checked. This is an issue because I’m creating an AI character with these animations and do not want to use root motion.

I was losing the binding. Also getting warnings about the transform not matching the original. I opened my fbx files, and set the root joint to zero and then exported again and it all works now.
