Blueprints are a toy. Which serious Unity dev would use UE4 without C#/F# or UnrealScript!?

Such big words from a guy that doesn’t understand that disagreeing with a fact doesn’t make it an opinion. Especially from a guy that says “its a fact” on multiple occasions. You sir, are the one in capable of understand facts. You’re what the many peers call…stubborn.

Why the hostility then if adding a scripting language wont affect your workflow with C++/BP?

Your only argument is that it will slow down the bug-fixes for some features that you’re interested in, right? Well that’s a bit childish. If there’s any other argument then you’re acting like hardcore fanbois.

Why are people keep asking for a scripting language? There are already several scripting languages. So, what’s the beef?
Epic supported SkookumScript. The company developing it already stated that they won’t abandon its development:

You want Epic themselves to create a scripting language, why? Because of the fear that the devs of SkookumScript might abandon its development? That can happen with any company, including Epic.

So, the feedback has been done, let’s move on and work on our projects.

Because we need it, it wouldn’t bother you so no need to argue about it.

Please no, that got to be the most confusing syntax ever. Even js is more sensible than skookumscript :v

I don’t understand why those threads keep coming up? Isn’t clear already? Programmers you use Visual Studio. Designers use Blueprint. End of story. There’s no reason to compare two different tools which are meant for two different target groups. I’m developing two game prototypes using only BP. Both titles are registered in Sony and based on them Sony gave DevKit for free. I can’t ask for more. Thanks to BP feature this was never possible for me in the past. When my games get funded I can then hire programmers to take the game beyond prototyping.
I have no doubts that BP is going to be a massive competitor to coding in the future. BP is only 2 years old but we already can do more a lot in much faster than what any programmer. Can you code a fighting game from start to finish including graphics and menus in like 2 days? I will very surprised if any programmer can. But even if someone can then s/he’s a genius programmer. The point is, with BP, any one can not only geniuses

Cheers

You didn’t read the thread did you?

not all 5 pages no. Why?

How many scripting languages must be developed, before you and others are happy?

Except that we don’t need it.

In the beginning the syntax seems a little wierd. But after a while, not so much.
It’s like showing Lisp to someone that only knows C or Java. It’s only confusing in the beginning, then it makes total sense.

Where is anyone asking for them to develop an entirely new language?

I think you know what I meant. But if you insist, is the correction:

How many scripting languages must be implemented/developed, before you and others are happy?

Happy now?

Fun fact:
I’ve managed to load (and use) ‘UnityEngine’ and ‘UnityEditor’, run any Unity C# runtime classes inside a Unreal Engine 4 game project without rebuilding UE4 from GitHub; just for fun.
Worked on UE4 downloaded from Launcher too and also ran in Blueprint only projects (without C++ project generated).

Too bad sharing something like that would be completely illegal and UnityTech for sure would put me in jail for doing so; but is crazy that it works

Because you missed what we are discussing .

At the moment there is none.

That may be true for you and others but I’m pretty sure many more will need it and just because *you * don’t need it doesn’t give you the authority to shut down feature requests from us.

Let’s agree to disagree, in the end it comes down to what Epic thinks is best and if they think it’s worth adding it then why not.

Already changed to “implemented/developed”. Therefore, the answer is no longer none.
And now that we at it, which scripting language would you choose?

What is changed to “implemented/developed”? Provide a source.

Two posts down from the one you took the the quote.

Still doesn’t answer your first question. And the answer is still: At least ONE programming language would be enough.

I find it strange that Sweeney sees C++ fit for indie devs and at the same time gives grants to SkookumScript company…

Ok, at least one programming language would be enough. Then you’re happy and satisfied, because there is. Unless you want an official one.

Why not giving a to them? They give it to other developers, why should it be only for game developers? It’s not a contradiction to what said in the past about scripting languages.
