Blueprint freezing since 4.8

I was asked to post this as bug report.

Since 4.8 the Blueprint Editor often becomes unresponsible for a short time. It mostly happens when navigating through Blueprints or zooming in and out. It does not happen all of the time, it’s seems to be coming in periods.

So I can work for some time without Issues, and of sudden it will start freezing for a second each few seconds when navigating or zooming and after like a minute it will go back to normal. I think it does appear mainly in Graphs with more than a few Nodes. But it’s not like there are 1000s of nodes in my Graphs, actually in most Graphs are less nodes than I had in 4.7 as I “outsourced” them.

The issue is serious, as it interrupts work flow. Imagine you are writing code, and your keyboard randomly freezes, dropping what ever letter you’ve just typed.

Please provide a little more background about the Blueprints freezing up on you ine 4.8, like:

  • Have you tested this with new projects, template packs, or free projects from the Marketplace?
  • Did you Migrate a project from 4.7 or open a copy of an older project with 4.8?
  • During these freezes, does the editor ever crash (-if so, please copy the callstack and post it here and hit the submit button on the crash reporter.)

Hi ,

  • I think I have experienced it with a 4.8 version of a marketplace project.
  • The main project I’m experiencing it was upgraded from 4.7 to 4.8
  • The Editor crashes alot, but as far as I can tell not in relation to the freezes.
  • No.

During the freezes, some nodes show silly graphics. It seems like when the freezes occur, the Editor can’t find the right graphics to draw, so it draws whatever and meanwhile spends all resources trying to retrieving the correct graphics. I’ll try to capture a Screenshot but today it frozen very few times and the time frame to take the screenshot is quite short.

Update: While I had this Issue since the launch of 4.8 I do not experience it anymore lately. I will mark it as resolved (and hope it stays like that) until I get new Information for you.

I have not been able to reproduce the issue on this end. Please send a screen shot if the issue returns. Also, when the editor crashes, add a quick note in the crash reporter and hit “submit.” Although it may not seem like it, it could be related to the freezes. Hopefully something in the latest release has resolved your issue, but if not, just update this post with the requested information -thanks1
