Blue Selection/Green selection, what do they do and how do they work?

In the Work with Control Points video on Youtube, I noticed color bars in the view type icon. What do they indicate?

Here’s the link to the video:

The colours correspond to preselected objects (e.g. images), which you can define by holding 1,2,3 or 4 while selecting them with left mouse button, which will make them being displayed in the corresponding viewport (if selected in layout).

I hope I got the terminology right!

Strangely, in my instance (1.0.2.1679), only the first viewport is colour coded (blue), the rest remains white and will not show any preselected object. Is that a bug or can it be corrected by some settings?

Hi Bill

Its define a “color” of cameras for faster work

main use is for the images selection
you can set “colors” to the 2D view
and pressing and holding key 1( Blue)- 2(Green) -3(Magenta) - 4(Coral) + Left Mouse Button ( LMB ) you set color to camera
And image will be loaded to corresponding view (color )

Its great for better navigation in complex scenes, so can very fast select proper views

hi Götz
you are correct the version used in the tutorial was from few months back, and we do some UI adjustments in meantime

Thanks Wishgranter,
Very useful.

We called those “colors” - cursors. You can set more views to show a particular cursor say blue - then when you select an object to the blue cursor, you can immediately see 1d-2d-3d info about the selected object.

There are also shortcuts active when a view is focused - ctrl + 1/2/3/4 changes cursor

When you drag & drop an image to a view and you hold “shift” during the drop action, then the app will set the dragged image to the cursor rather then setting view to image. Sounds complicated, easy to try

3D views support cursors too. You need to “enter” camera space, be pressing “enter” key. To leave the 3D view just rotate the view.

You can use arrows and page-up/down to set a cursor to the next/previous/+10th next/-10th previous object while you are in views. Hold shift to navigate in a image list, release shift to navigate in aligned cameras list.

Thanks martinb, will play with this some more.

Is there a quick way to remove cursor assignments so that the full list of images and components is displayed in the 1Ds panel again?

If you hold 1/2/3/4 and click on an item it will “toggle” cursor. So click once to assign a cursor, click the second time and it will remove the cursor. This holds also for 3D views, click on camera pyramid…

But it should not affect list of displayed items. Its just a color assigned to some image/object.

Funny, I somehow managed to set the first “image window”, which usually has the blue marker, to neutral.
Is there a way to set these windows to a specific colours?

I just figured it out myself: ctrl plus 1,2,3 or 4 sets the ACTIVE window to the equivalent colour.
That did not come across to me from help.
Also, what doe the buttons in scene (3D) do? When I press them, nothing happens…
Correction: it is the same as pressing ctrl plus number on an ACTIVE window…

In 3D you need to press Enter key to enter camera. Then the view camera follows the cursor selection. To stop tracking cursor you have to transform the view yourself (rotate/move/…).

Overall I really like the RealityCapture UI and workflow. It is very well thought out.
