Description:

Blackguard is a first-person melee-slasher focussed on fluid and skilful combat, set in a late Middle Ages-inspired open world. The player must skilfully defeat mixed groups of enemies by using every combat tool at their disposal and using a variety of weapons and Alchemies.

Includes:

  • Relentless, Fluid & Brutal Combat – Seamlessly combine cuts & thrusts with pommel strikes, punches, grappling and throws to skilfully defeat enemies. Throw enemies into each other, dodge and riposte, knock them down and finish them.

  • Unique & Specialised Weapons – Use a variety of swords, shields, axes, maces, polearms, offhand daggers and pistols as well as bows, crossbows and arquebuses. Pick the right tool for the occasion.

  • Deep & Skilful Magic System – Alchemical spells synergise with melee and ranged combat, working to confuse, cripple, disorient and kill enemies and create deeper combat.

  • Functional & Customisable Armour– Protect yourself with layers of mail, padding and plate armour that realistically deflect attacks. Fully customise your armour to trade off mobility and protection – but beware that enemies are prepared as well.

  • Integrated Multiplayer – Cooperate with or invade other players seamlessly. Help or hunt unsuspecting players.

  • Unique Visual Design – The appearance of the world and its inhabitants is inspired by the art of the painter Zdzisław Beksiński, reflecting his strange but engrossing visions.

I have already done a considerable amount of prototyping of combat mechanics for Blackguard, and also contracted and utilised prototyping animations and player assets.

I’m looking for some collaborators who would like to work on some further prototyping. Requirements are not very strict - I would like people interested in the premise and willing to spend a little spare time working on something fun, to push the game forward to a point where work can begin in earnest.

Should the game go on to release (as intended!) then any collaborators will be included in a revshare arrangement. If full development via crowdfunding begins, then contract and paid work will be available.

Previous Work:
Warmod for Chivalry: Medieval Warfare

  • Worked in UnrealScript & UDK
  • Produced 3D Animation (some experience in Maya).
  • Experienced with 3D Asset Pipeline

Talent Required**:**

Programmer

  • Wanted for: Assistance with general prototyping of game systems.
  • Proficiency with UE4 required
  • Competent with C++, UMG & AI programming a bonus

Animator

  • Wanted for: Producing rough prototyping animations (in Maya, Blender etc.)
  • Working knowledge of the UE4 animation pipeline desirable

3D Artist

  • Wanted for: Producing rough 3D environmental and hard/soft surface props for prototyping
  • Working knowledge of the UE4 asset pipeline desirable
