Hello, this is my first time posting on the forum, hope this is the right place to post.
Me and a group of friends are developing a videogame in Unreal Engine and we are having humongous problems with ncloth in maya 2016. We tried the apex plugin but it doesn’t seem to work at all. For the past 4 months our fellow animator tried various things but he just can’t figure out a proper way of doing it.
Loads of our characters have cloth so we desperately need to find a solution.
What is the best method of making an ncloth on a character animation and then importing it into unreal engine with minimum issues?
How do I to stop the cloth to spazz out in the run cycle?
Also is it possible to ncloth one specific part of a mesh or it has to be the whole thing turned into ncloth?
I left attached a picture of how our character and the cloth look like
Any help or link to tutorials would be extremely helpful.
Your Model seems very simple, and with one or two layers of small pieces of clothing like that, Apex should be able to handle it very well.
I don’t see why you would use ncloth in this case.
For more complicated clothing tasks then yes I would suggest to use a pre baked cloth sim, but that would come with tons of additional steps such as custom bone setup driven by the cloth sim and the have the baked keys manipulated by the animator in order to make cloth loopable and make sure it blends well during different transitions, Pros = more control as an animator over cloth behavior (look and feel minus jitters or penetrations that come with realtime cloth sims) + better looking cloth sims in some places. Cons = much more time and extra setup required.
But like i said in your case I don’t think you need this but rather try looking into apex some more.
I’ve used ncloth little as i’m a Max user, but it shouldn’t give you trouble especially in your case. Also note you need to have a special bone rig for it to be able to export it to unreal as skinned mesh. check for ncloth tutorials on youtube for general sim setup. Shouldn’t be a problem there.
Thanks for your responses! Ive watched through that tutorial before and it seems easy to follow and useful however, we have had issues getting the apex plug in to work in maya as it wont show up in the program and isnt in the plug in manager.
Does anyone have any hints or a step by step tutorial on the steps to getting apex dowloaded and then working in maya 2016?
We managed to get the phys x plugin working but apex is no good.
Thanks again and any help would be much appreciated
Thanks man, we managed to get it installed, but we are also trying to get the plugin Apex to work but we can’t figure out where to install it, we tried on the same folder of physx but nothing is happening. We tried version 1.3.2 from the nvidia website but nothing.
Physx is version 3.3.2, same you suggested, and we are using maya 2016.
We looked everywhere but nobody seems to say where to add the apex plugin to physx so that it can pop up in the dropdown menu of physx.
Any clue on how to solve the final step? Thanks a lot
