As Epic pushes more into mobile, we would benefit greatly from improved control options on the UI layer for gameplay. There are so many games that use “press and hold, drag, and release” controls that we can’t setup well with current tools. Everything from Ballz (Arcade) to Candy Crush (Puzzle) to Word Cookies! (Word) to Clash Royale (RTS/Auto-Battle), there are so many popular mobile categories that are completely off-limits to us.
Similarly, the “Sleep Mode” in Fortnite is very antithetical to best practices for mobile game design, which encourages a lot of idle and automated gameplay. Would be great if we can disable this in our IslandSettings for at least Private Sessions so those who want to idle can do so.
If you’re reading this and agree, please upvote. It’s the #1 way we can raise visibility inside Epic to give us better tools in these two important areas. Thank you!
There are a good amount of games that I would like to be able to make that would greatly benefit from being able to detect dragging inputs from the mouse like slide puzzle games.
Greater control over touch interactions (screen position, dragging, etc.) in and outside of the UI layer, more control over the screen layout and what buttons are necessary for the game with the ability to remove those that just take up screen space should all be added.
Being able to have custom placement for UI widgets on specific platforms (mainly mobile) would be a great step forward. For example, in one of my maps, I have a custom team info widget made with the HUD controller, and in the top left corner I show the informations of all players, with their health bar, etc… While this works fine on PC, console, etc, on mobile the minimap widget is overlapping it (since it’s on the left), making it impossible to read the names. This is already a thing with the default Fortnite team info HUD, where the widgets are placed more towards the center so they don’t get overlapped by the minimap widget. So it would be great if we got something similar for UEFN.
