Description:
My wife recently showed me an update from one of the African ranger organizations she follows that showed a memorial for two fallen rangers - a rough pile of stones with their boots & framed pictures of the men killed in the war to preserve wildlife for future generations.
I was inspired to try to use light & particles to pay tribute to their sacrifice.
First time using Niagara & Lumen. I toned down the interactive light to make the animals & ranger more ghostly.
Animating the animals proved to be the biggest challenge, as root motion would sometimes carry over from one animation to the next, except when it didn’t.
One thing that struck me as kind of sad given my subject matter was that most of the animations that come with animals are attacks, hits & dying. It was a challenge to find non-violent animations to tell the story.
Movie Render Queue crashed every time no matter the resolution or how many console variables I adjusted, so I fell back onto the Legacy Movie Capture.
Without reading the description, I just saw a beautifully done video with some stunningly detailed creatures. The background behind the scene though, definitely makes it mean so much more.
Very nice work.
I’m from rural South Africa myself and I often get giraffe, buck and even once a hippo wandering around my property, so really appreciate the sentiment behind your great piece of art.
All of our wildlife is under so much pressure.
Thanks for your message and brilliant work and best of luck for the competition.
Kind regards,
Shane.
Your project is beautifully somber. The sun sets as we also bear witness to the spiritual circle of life. Despite the challenges you endured to complete this project, you continued forward and added beauty to the world. Thank you!
Thank you Shane. I live near the coast in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, and we are excited when we see a raccoon or squirrel on our deck. I can’t imagine a visit by a giraffe or hippo!
