Best way to work between sketchup and UE4

There is a set of Youtube videos here that is sometimes recommended (but still hard to find!).

The playlist will take you through the process of exporting from Sketchup to Unreal Engine.
Unfortunately, doing this well is a little involved.

Hi, i try to import object from sketchup to UE4 and to finish, i build light.

When i do it with simples objects no problem.
When i try with more complex objects, i got issus! (15000-20000 triangles)

My workflow right now is: 1. Model in Sketchup 2. Set texturesize in sketchup to something appropriate for the model, so that material scaling isn’t ridiculous once in UE4 3. Export as FBX 4. Import FBX as static mesh 5. Place mesh in world and set up collisions. 6. Build lighting. and that’s where i got the problem.

  1. i just have one UV channels, impossible to get the second one
  2. serius over lapping problems… the uvs are just lost

Is the fact that my skecthup meshes got more triangles than my simple one would be the problem?

THanks a lots for your answer!

Thanks. This is exactly the way i did it but if i import a chair per example from sketchup, i wanna get the second the uv chanel 2 to get the light map…and it doesn’t propose me the uv channel 1 onlly the ‘0’

work!

Ah, I don’t think Unreal Engine supports regular multi-set UV channels. What is the second channel for?

The best way to work between SKP and Ue4 is Blender as shown in a video. There s no other way to export complex objects from SKP. THat s take 2 min per objetcs…not that long. I recommend too to use a converter plugin between skp and blender.
