I am in the starting phase of creating a new way to design 3D professionally and plundering which direction to take with getting this to market.
UE5 has been chosen because it can deliver an “all-in-one-box” solution.
Eventually, in some years time, this will become a standalone solution, sort of like a video game, just for professional 3D design. This is not intended to replace CAD software, but instead, grant access to as good tools to those who are limited by time, equipment and/or money to use the best solutions out there.
For now, it’s Editor Utility Widgets and procedural scripted mesh geometry. Next phase is a packaged project with UMG overtaking EUWs.
Unreal Engine users are a very small market compared to real time hobby users over all.
Yet, it makes sense to start with UE users to get input and possibly development partners.
I won’t make a plugin due to limited coding skills and not entirely certain if I should just open source this to speed up development and thereby sacrifice monetary gain.
Then there is the potential to put this on Steam or Itch.io to reach more people and possibly outside funding due to a larger user base.
Overall, it makes great sense to aim for a well defined end goal to avoid going down the rabbit hole with my personal preferences, only to realise 80% of the time went into things no one wants.
