Best Shooter starter pack ?

Hi All,

Looking for some advice, I have attempted to build my concept from scratch but its becoming rather clunky and very unpolished and getting what I have to a better level alone would be a massive amount of dev time.

I’ve been looking to make a third person game in the style of the 2000’s cover shooters. To advance quicker I have been investigating the Game Templates / Game Systems packages. Many appear to have around 70 / 80% of the mechanics I am after.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience in any of the systems, had any reviews or if their was anything comparing and contrasting them?

The packages I have seen so far are.

  • Unreals Own Lyra.

  • Voyager Third Person Kit

  • Marcin Matuszczyk - Third Person Shooter Kit

  • RetroCore Shooter Pack

  • Low Poly Shooter Pack v6.0

  • FPS Multiplayer Template 6

Run as far away from the low poly shooter pack as you can. The developer has pretty much abandoned it. Questions go unanswered, the community isn’t there to help anyone either. He’s more focused on his new Rifle Kit, he’s made his money from the low poly sales. There’s a bug where using sniper scopes makes the screen flicker, people have been asking for a solution for over a year, multiple people, and he hasn’t even tried to care enough to give an answer. I’ve used a lot of kits over the years and it’s by far the most needlessly complicated one that I’ve ever used. Everything is just kinda shoved together, no modularity. Oh and it doesn’t come with game modes. Just a character class pretty much and a basic UI. Go with FPS kit if you’re still looking for which one to use. The community isn’t dead, everything is well fleshed out and organized and commented code wise. Definitely the best one I’ve used in a while. Third person shooter kit is great but from what I remember it was a single player only kit first, the replication was added recently so it may have some bugs not sure. Sorry for the long response, just want to be as helpful as possible
