Best Practices for Uploading & Packaging Sci-Fi Decals for FAB Store?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to start uploading my own set of cyberpunk / sci-fi graphic decals from my Artstation store to the FAB store, but I noticed that most of the decals currently available are Quixel assets. I haven’t come across any user-uploaded decals yet, so I was hoping to get some clarity before I begin.

Here are a few specific questions I have:

  1. File Format

Is PNG with transparency enough for decals? are vector files acceptable ?
Should I provide other maps (e.g. opacity, roughness, metallic, or even normal maps) for decals that need more depth and realism?
Is there a preferred resolution for decal assets (e.g. 2K, 4K)?

  1. Organization

Should I upload each decal individually? Or is it better to bundle a group of decals into multiple packs (e.g. a themed sci-fi UI pack or warning signs pack)?
If I go with packs, should I provide each decal as a separate file inside the pack, or as a single decal sheet?

  1. Asset Setup

Do I need to include any sample materials or shaders (e.g. a basic Unreal decal setup)?

Thanks in advance

I haven’t uploaded decals at all so take it with a grain of salt. Your work looks interesting!

As you are talking about .png files… I think you can’t simply upload bunch of pngs. You have to either upload 3d project or Unreal project or Unity project (but Unity one has to be first accepted on Unity Asset Store).

IMO the best approach here would be to do Unreal project. I would advise putting them somewhere in materials category. See here about generic requirements: Asset File Format and Structure Requirements in Fab | Fab Documentation | Epic Developer Community .But I would advise reading the whole page from the beginning. Especially see the link to technical requirements (it describe project structure etc. https://support.fab.com/s/article/FAB-TECHNICAL-REQUIREMENTS )
