Best Practices for Optimizing Short Unreal Engine Clips for TikTok

Hey everyone,

I’ve seen a lot of Unreal Engine creators sharing short clips of their environments, VFX, and animations on TikTok, and I’d like to try doing the same to showcase my work.

I’m wondering if anyone here has tips or workflows for optimizing short video clips specifically for TikTok’s format? For example:

  • Best practices for aspect ratios, resolution, or frame rates
  • Tips for keeping file sizes manageable without losing too much visual quality
  • Any in-engine settings or post-processing tricks to make clips stand out on mobile

I know Unreal Engine is powerful for rendering cinematic shots, but I’m not sure what adjustments are worth making for short-form mobile platforms.

Just adding a quick follow-up in case anyone else is experimenting with this too — I’ve been testing a few different export settings and found that vertical 9:16 aspect ratio with 1080x1920 resolution and 30fps works well for TikTok. Also, keeping bitrate around 5–8 Mbps seems to balance quality and file size nicely.

For creators working on more VFX-heavy or slightly mature Unreal Engine content that doesn’t always fit TikTok’s guidelines, I’ve seen some share their work on TikTok 18 — it offers more flexibility for showcasing creative projects without the same level of content restrictions.

Still curious if anyone has fine-tuned their export or post-process workflow specifically for mobile platforms.
