Best possible mesh quality & precision

Hi everybody!

I have 2 questions for experts and RC developers:

  • What is the highest possible quality of the mesh can be achieved in RC? (maximum details and minimum artefacts OR how detailed and clean mesh can be). I’m talking about the result of the mesh reconstruction without any filters like smoothing and other mesh processing applied. I’m not talking about textures, only geometry. Any answers are welcomed, architecture the most!

  • Please, share your examples of the highest possible geometry quality reconstructed in RC, so I can calibrate my mind in terms what is possible to achieve with RC. (maximum details and minimum geometry artefacts like noise and other issues).

Thanks in advance!

Hi Arkon77,

there is a lot similar questions on our forum.

I think, it is hard to say, what is the best quality. It really depends on the way how you captured or scanned your objects, what type of images did you used, how precise you were able to align the images, number and quality of the images. You can find a lot of examples on your Facebook page CapturingReality Arena, also with the tips and showed models.

Hi 374823146340,

and sorry, i did not found answers for my questions on the forum.

You are right, we need some “pivot points” to determine “best quality”.

For example, we have expensive full-frame camera with good lens. We are using tripod, f/11, iso100, RAW, … . We can make as much photos as we need. Perfect conditions in all aspects.

I want to figure out, how many pixels on the photo the smallest detail can be, to be registered and reconstructed in mesh in RC?

With perfect conditions (minimally three images, 80% overlap, etc.) it should be pixel and pixels around it like

But this is also related with the camera resolution, focal length and the distance from the scanned object, what is a basic limitation for this purpose.
