Best Content Example(s) for Audio?

Hey all,

Very very new user to the audio systems in unreal. Really enjoying it so far, I’m going through various basic tutorials on dev (some UE4) and other docs, talks and demos (UE5) to kind of get my bearings. But beyond the Content Examples Project and the stand alone tutorials, what other learning samples show best practices or features to best effect? The City Sample looks to be a high bar for a variety of audio features that seem to be in Beta. Is this project the most “comprehensive” for seeing a number of those features in action?

Any other that you all would recommend beyond what I’m already investigating? Any pointers appreciated. Thanks!

Pete

Hey there @POTWD! As you already noticed, the City Sample has some industry standard practices for audio and would have been my first recommendation. Lyra shows some great workflows with Metasounds.

Excellent breakdown of how Lyra handles audio:

Hope this helps!

Ah, cool. this looks great. cant believe it hasn’t shown up in my searches so far. ha. thanks!

Lyra follows a ton of industry standards, but is also one of the most complex of the sample projects due to being built for multiplayer. It’s more difficult to work with initially, because the workflows most users go through when learning Unreal are quite different than the final practices shown off in Lyra.

As an example, changing a material isn’t as simple as creating a fresh material and changing the reference. It needs to be configured in the correct domain, then assigned on the server and clients (in two different ways). Audio in this case isn’t quite as bad, but it will show you how to handle sounds in a multiplayer environment in a scalable manner.
