Best app to do skinning/weight painting in?

When i first started out with UE4 and looked into various topics i eventually came accross weight painting. And the first obvious choice fell on Maya. So ever since then, i’ve been weight painting in Maya (using ngSkinTools). And those few times i’ve been doing it, i have always been struggeling with painting on surfaces that intersect, so hiding and unhiding parts, ended up taking so much of my time that the fun of it dissapeared. So i started to wonder if there’s another alternative than Maya? And for someone more seasoned in this area, what do you prefer?

Hey mate, maya+ng is my weapon of choice by far. I highly doubt there is any comparable solution out there - especially one that is compatible with complex maya native rigs.
The customizability of maya and efficiency of ng is super hard to beat.

So my question here instead is: what exactly are you striggling with? What kind of intersecting surfaces do you mean? And how are you hiding/unhiding? Im pretty sure we can optimize your workflow with a few simple steps if you provide more info on what the current problems are.
