Twinmotion has lots of great features, but through the years the UI has always been unconventional and horrifying! Some examples (mostly in the latest version)
- Earlier there was a tooltip with feature Youtube video link almost everywhere you pointed. You had to plan where to point just not to hide the UI. Thank GOD it’s gone now.
- Assigning materials: They end up on everything with the same ID/material from import, can’t find where to change the assignment, oh maybe under the “Assign” tab when the material is selected.. “Applied on” list.. Yes that’s the list, but NO, there’s no way to interact here. No idea where it’s hidden!
- Selecting images and/or videos for export is very strange, you just check the contents, then what? Click outside the popup to start. No, use just MOVE the mouse outside. Very flimsy handling!
- Material handling, that bottom panel gets filled up in no time, names get truncated in no time, making it a nightmare to manage. Please provide some filtering, grouping, different types of lists. The previews also takes time to present (even with high-end GPU)
- The media panel… How on earth do I adjust lengths of the individual transitions in a video? It’s so minimalistic (you probably do that so people think it’s simple) that you irritate people like crazy because they can’t accomplish the easiest animation.
- I’d expect renaming a video clip by double clicking on the title, but no, I need to use the context menu (…), click “rename” just to see the marked title flicker by, because the mouse is where the dropdown was. No renaming!
- Hiding paths of people etc. Yes I know there is a way, but I don’t remember the solution to hide them. Can’t those be more hidden by default?
- Copying objects, like trees like you want to duplicate. EVERY copy leads to a popup for selecting instance or copy. No way to remember the setting. Lots of times I didn’t realize that popup was even open and thought the program had frozen.
- The popups aren’t centered in the software area, so if you have a superwide screen and Twinmotion on one half, the popups are off centered. Not conventional and very strange.
- When opening last file from startscreen, same thing happens, a popup with question if I want to save (save WHAT, I just opened the software??) appears in an off-centered place. Easy to miss.
- Howcome the rendering looks perfectly fine when panning around in the view, but can end up taking hours when rendering film (30 sec film without pathtracing)?
List could go on and on for ever. I understand, you think you’re making a super easy to use software, so that anyone can use it. But come on, every grownup on earth has been in touch with some kind of software, don’t reinvent the most basic things just to invent something. It’s a super annoying software to use. And on top of it all, often Twinmotion crashes after a while when locking the computer to get a cup of coffee or something. Never happens with any other software.
Kill your precious darling ideas, listen to users, look at similar software (and other too) and learn what is CONVENTIONAL. UX/UI is an intuitive business, not forcing users to do odd things.
