Something is causing my Unreal Engine 5 performance to tank.
Like, if I open any project, the whole editor runs at 30-50 fps. Even when opening an blank third person project, I notice slight jitters, and hitting play to test in the editor, the fps is around 20-30 fps. Even the blueprint editors lag and stutter.
The worst part is when I play-test with 2 or more players. I get sub-10 fps and the whole editor usually crashes.
This never used to be a problem, but something obviously happened that worsened performance in the last few weeks.
You can’t blame my hardware because I’m running an RTX 2070 Super + Ryzen 7950X + 32GB of DDR5 ram + all the latest drivers. I am having zero issues running games and emulators the way I normally do.
I tried rolling Windows 11 back to a restore point before installing a wave of new drivers. The problem persisted.
This issue is also persistent accross both Unreal Engine 5.2 and 5.1.1.
Is there anything left I can do besides trying to re-install the engine?
That’s some odd behavior. Have you checked to see if you have any new background processes running that you can kill? Additionally, you can try to verify your installs of Unreal, though it is odd that it would happen to both.
I don’t notice any new background processes. I’ve tried this multiple times straight after boot without launching any other programs. Verifying the installs did not fix it.
For what it’s worth, the crash log returns this (the editor crashes if I playtest with 2+ players):
I’m not actually sure why it’s referencing “D:” here. My Drive D shouldn’t have anything related to any Unreal installs or my currently loaded project. There is no “build” directory on my D drive either.
If verifying did not fix it, I would start a new project and try to run a multiplayer playtest. If it works, then it is highly likely that it is a problem that can or should be resolved without reinstalling. Otherwise, reinstalling the Engine may be the best choice.
