Major Updates and Exciting Progress - October 2024

We are beyond excited to share a detailed update on our Atavism for Unreal project as of October 2024. Over the past several months, we’ve been working relentlessly behind the scenes to bring you an unparalleled MMORPG development experience, and today, we’re thrilled to reveal just how far we’ve come.

DragonSan Studios: Six Years of Ownership and Commitment
First things first – it’s been six years since DragonSan Studios took over Atavism Online, and during this time, we’ve poured our hearts into improving it. Our goal? To make Atavism the go-to tool for anyone looking to create a killer MMORPG. We’ve come a long way, and there’s still so much more to come!

Key Milestones and Progress
Our journey to deliver Atavism for Unreal has faced some unexpected challenges, but we are pleased to report significant progress. One of the most critical achievements has been the successful migration of Atavism to Unreal Engine 5.4. This transition has set the foundation for delivering better performance, enhanced visuals, and an improved user experience.

Here’s a breakdown of the key components we’ve made progress on:

Combat System: We’ve implemented a fully functional system covering skills, talents, abilities, and coordinated effects. Combat mechanics are solid and responsive, laying the groundwork for immersive player interactions.
Account Registration & Authentication: The registration process and authentication system have been completed and are ready for testing.
Character Creation and Management: This feature is nearly complete, providing users with intuitive customization options and powerful management tools for in-game characters.
Items & Auction House: Both systems are fully functional, allowing players to interact with items and engage in the auction house, a critical component of MMORPG economies.
Social and Quest Systems: We’ve made excellent progress here, ensuring players can socialize, collaborate, and take on quests effectively.
Dialogue System: Key to immersive storytelling, the dialogue system is up and running, allowing rich interactions between players and NPCs.
Resource Nodes & Building System: Players can now interact with the game world’s resources, and most of the building system mechanics are already in place.
We’re currently testing the Trading and Guild Systems, which will bring even more depth to the player community.

The Growth of the Atavism Team

We’re excited to announce that the Atavism team has expanded once again! Our collaboration with an Studio has allowed us to accelerate development on the Unreal client-side. this Studio brings a wealth of experience, having developed top-rated packages for game development, which will significantly enhance the quality of the Unreal version of Atavism.

Additionally, we’ve brought new contractors on board who are dedicated to developing the Atavism Hub—a project management tool designed to streamline installations, updates, and project creation. This new system is expected to vastly simplify how developers interact with the Atavism Editor and manage their MMORPG projects.

Looking Ahead
While we have achieved major milestones, we are far from finished. We are finalizing the Trading and Guild Systems and have many more updates to share soon. Keep an eye out for a second sneak peek of the new Atavism Editor, which will showcase even more advanced configurations and performance optimizations. Furthermore, we’re exploring additional expansions and looking for talented developers to join our team, particularly in Electron + Angular to aid in the Atavism Hub development.

The Atavism Hub itself is nearing completion and will serve as a centralized tool for managing project installations and updates. We know this will be a game changer for developers looking to streamline their workflows and get their projects off the ground faster.

We recognize that the development of Atavism for Unreal has been a long journey, complicated by challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the evolving scale of the project. But thanks to the perseverance of our team, and the support of the community, we’re closer than ever to realizing our vision.

Finally the most feature rich MMO framework on the market for Unity, makes its way to Unreal. After years of waiting it gets me excited :wink:

Finally! Can’t wait to play around with it, the Unity version is great but looking at the default toolkit Unreal offers vs Unity I’m quite certain which version will be the better one.
