Assets Lost And Found - How To I Get Access To Them

I’ve looked through the forum and see some people asking about how to change the VaultCache location, and that’s only part of my question. I know how to do that… but…

I haven’t opened unreal in a couple of months. I started working on a new project and noticed that I was missing some assets that I had purchased. I though maybe I purchased them on a different machine… or thought I purchased them but didn’t. Somehow some of my assets in my Unreal Vault are not showing up. They are still on my machine, but in a different location than my VaultCache. When I do to use an asset that IS in my vault it caches it to:

‘C:/ProgramData/Epic/EpicGamesLauncher/Vault’

But there are also a lot of assets that I’ve purchased and used previously in a different folder:

‘F:\VaultCache’

Which is where keep my VaultCache.

Here is my questions…

  1. How do I consolidate the two different groups of assets? Right now I am copying everything that is in the ‘C:/’ location to the ‘F:/’ location that I want them in and I am going to change the VaultCache location in the Unreal Library. Is that right?

  2. Will that make the assets that aren’t showing up in the Vault appear? I don’t think so. How do I make Unreal see these assets?

Thanks.

Make sure you have your Vault Category Filter set to ALL

Thanks for that idea… I hoped that was it, but I just checked it. That’s not it.

I have looked in my Transactions list from Unreal and there are some assets that aren’t in it.

I have checked my emails and I don’t have a receipt for them either, just an email saying:

Hi Sean,

We identified an error occurring between December 21, 2022 and February 10, 2023 that may have resulted in eligible purchases not receiving a receipt via email.

If you’d like to view your purchase history, it can be found [here] in the transactions tab of your account management profile. If you have any questions, please reach out to [Player Support]

Thank you,
Epic Games

I’m pretty sure that all of these assets were purchased fall within that window of time.

I have the assets on my machine. I also have an email I sent to the developer of a few of them asking some questions, so I know that I have the assets. I also have an old project in which the assets were used. It’s just weird that they aren’t showing up in my transaction or in my Vault.

I am going to reach out to ‘Player Support’ and see if they can help.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Player Support was no help. That’s for people that are having trouble with games, not for developers. So the link in my email was no use.

OK. Here’s what I’ve found.

By changing the location of the VaultCache, nothing changed. The Vault in the Epic Games Launcher was the same. It was still missing some of the assets I’ve purchased.

Then, today I started a new project in 5.1.1. As soon as the splash screen started and the project was loading, the Epic Games Launcher closed, like normal. I opened it again to load some assets and there they were, the missing assets. Like they’ve always been there.

Is this a normal thing? For some
assets to not be there until you’re running a project?
