4.14.2 built from source.
Asset picker stays open when you bring it up and open an asset. It used to close, and it’s just weird now.
Also it takes a double click to open an asset in the list, not a simple click anymore. Weird as well. Enter key still works but the asset picker stays on screen.
Hello ,
I ran a few tests on my end and I was unable to reproduce this issue on our end. I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what issue it is that you are experiencing.
Quick questions:
- Can you reproduce this issue in a clean project?
- If so, could you provide a detailed list of steps to reproduce this issue on our end?
- Could you provide screens shots of any blueprints/settings that may be involved?
Hi Rudy, thanks for the quick reply.
Yes I can reproduce it on a new clean project.
To be clear, this is UE4.14.2 built from github tag 4.14.2-release with the corresponding PS4 source added and compiled UE4Editor.
Here is where it gets interesting: if the asset opened will open as a window, the asset picker will disappear as expected. If however the asset open will open as a tab of the main window, the asset picker will stay there.
Steps
- new project, no starter content
- go to project settings, created a new gamemode GM
- underneath created a new player controller PC
- compiled both, saved level to LVL1
- close all tabs/windows except for LVL1.
- open asset picker (on my machine it’s CTRL_SHIFT_R a la Intellij)
- press enter right away
- observe that GM opens as window, and the asset picker disappear as expected
- drag GM tab to become a tab next to LVL1 (a tab of the main window)
- close GM
- open asset picker again
- press enter right away
- this time, GM opens as a tab, but the asset picker stays open.
Since most of my assets open as tabs, this happens all the time for me.
This is a UX regression for sure, that wasn’t happening in 4.12, 4.10, etc.

Hope this helps.
I was able to reproduce this issue on our end. I have written up a report and I have submitted it to the developers for further consideration. I have provided a link to the public tracker. Please feel free to use the link provided for future updates. Thank you for your time and information.
