Me and my friends are making a game using Unreal Engine, and we had someone making a map for us. They brought assets and plugins they owned into the project and made a map for us. Recently, however, they left the project. I am wondering if we are allowed to keep the assets and plugins they brought with them into our project despite them leaving the project?
Im supposing but if you have any legal contract where you paid for them the service and what brings with it, i would think is ok. But if not, and they have the way to demostrate that those asset are owned by them, i think you can get some problems.
I agree with @Astroz77744, if there are no contracts or written agreements in place there may be an issue. I would see if you can consult some legal council on how to proceed and possibly ask for permission from them in order to use the assets they contributed and get some sort of written contract stating so.
