As someone brand new to game dev, UE6 needs agentic AI & VFX workflows (just please no tokens!)

Hey everyone,
I’m a college student who wants to get into game dev and real-time art, though I haven’t actually used Unreal Engine—or any game engine—yet. I don’t currently have a PC powerful enough to run UE5 locally, but I’ve been following industry news and learning tutorials closely so I’m prepared to jump in once I upgrade my setup.
Looking ahead at Unreal Engine 6, I really hope Epic considers adding agentic AI workflows—similar to how tools like Windsurf or Google’s Antigravity work for coding right now.
For complete beginners like me, staring down file structures, scene layouts, and node graphs can feel super overwhelming. It’d be amazing if UE6 had a built-in production assistant where you could type something like, “Find my desert assets, set up a basic canyon layout, and put together a sunset lighting pass,” and watch the engine organize the files and build out the baseline scene.
Crucially, this shouldn’t lock anything down. The AI should just build the initial scaffold or starting point, while leaving full manual control in our hands. That way, creators can still jump in, move objects around, adjust lighting nodes, and tweak every single detail manually whenever we want.
The same goes for VFX. Niagara is super powerful, but tweaking particle parameters, fluid passes, or atmospheric fog from scratch has a steep learning curve. Having an AI assistant generate an initial smoke, fire, or weather setup based on plain text prompts—while still letting us manually tweak the Niagara parameters afterward—would lower the barrier to entry significantly for new creators.
My biggest concern, though, is how this gets priced.
A lot of the new AI tools out there use pay-per-action or token-based pricing, and it completely ruins the learning process. When you’re new, you learn by making mistakes and trying things a hundred times. If every prompt or tweak drains a token meter, you get too stressed about spending money to actually experiment and learn.
Epic has always been super supportive of students and indies by letting us build for free until we actually make money. I really hope that same mentality carries over to UE6’s AI features. Please keep it local or flat-rate—don’t let token counters ruin the creative flow!
Would love to know what other beginners and indies think about this!
