Are there any alternative ways to get Depth Of Field more performance friendly?

Context: I like cinematic looking games. And for my game, I want to add Depth of field. I know a way to make DOF, but that costs alot of performance issues for me (Low end user).

I usually make my DOF with a line trace and changing it from the post process setting variable
But I’ve noticed the Depth of field only activates when the post process quality is set to “High“, which is costs me alot of performance.

And I couldn’t find anything on YouTube besides what I already know and cinematic camera tutorials for cinematics

So I’m wondering if there are any alternatives such as Post Process Materials, Or another trick I don’t know about? (I’m pretty new at materials making, I just know the basics and I know the basics of Post process aswell)

Any help would be appreciated!
