Hi, I want to make a game in the cel shaded “Guilty Gear” style, but the thing is that I can’t draw at all and every site and video on YouTube tell me to use character design sheets. Is it possible to make characters without using a sheet and do you guys have any tips?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
You mean to have a drawing like a A or T-pose reference with front/side/back views?
It is really usefull in a studio when you have a character designer and someone else who do 3D models. But if you are doing everything alone, you can go without. I had similar problem and finally I solved it sculpting the character and doing a clean topology after. For sculpting you can do it with blender if you don’t have Zbrush. It needs a few training but you can get a nice result rather fast .
If you use blender, in dynatopo, use constant details rather than auto adjust (you can lose details, but it will be cleaner with less ghosts/lost polygons).
You can try to start with the topology immediatly but… sclupting is usefull to fix shapes and proportions beforehand.
But keep some body references, it will allow you to undestand what doesn’t work in your shapes (often : the arch, the shoulders…). Hands can be really difficult. For the topology, it can be easier and faster to do them separatly.
Thanks I’ll try that!
Also yeah I meant that by character sheet.
