I haven’t seen many anime games in the market besides final fantasy and naruto. I was wondering if there were any anime games out there that are high in popularity.

One Piece -> the Wii game was pretty entertaining

No, I just watch some few animes - one piece, naruto and some anime movies 
They’re not generally popular. They do however have a fairly sizeable hardcore niche audience.
FF an anime game?
I’m sure there is a huge amount of games based on anime that are never released outside Japan.
I guess the DBZ games are probably among the most popular anime games in the western market?

It might work well. For some Anime and Gaming goes together like Peanut butter and jelly.

Maybe I don’t understand what you mean when you say anime game.
I wanted to create a video game bases on the anime fairy tail but that’s already been made.
You cannot create products based upon the IP of other companies. Even when making a “free fan-made game” such as when MainSix tried making Fighting is Magic the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic based fighting game it was shut down by Hasbro.
If you would like to make a game based upon the themes and art styles go for it. A good game will sell because it is a good game simple as that. Just stick to original IP.
I wouldn’t consider FF an anime style game as it does not use the anime art style. I would love a good anime based game, but it seems that most are VN’s, with the dxception being the DBZ fighting games.
I’ll try to come up with an original idea or something completely different
