I typically have to reduce the color / luminosity of materials imported from ArchiCAD down to about 25%. I can reduce the lighting/ sun exposure, but that affects everything globally and I only have the problem with imported ArchiCad surfaces.
Three questions: 1) What exactly is material luminosity? What is that setting doing? 2) Is there a way to select all the imported ArchiCAD materials and change their luminosity settings in one go? 3) Is there a setting in DirectLink/Datasmith that could solve this problem?
Hello ,
Thank you for posting in the community about materials being too bright.
I wanted to post several images to reference to help with his discussion.
At first glance it seems like Material look pretty close to what they look like in Archicad:
1) Material Luminosity is by Default 50% and makes a material look black or lighter.
2) At this time you can by going to the Material Gallery view and selecting the same types of materials (glass/mirror or other)
Use the material picker and select a material then click on the Multi view icon in the bottom right corner of material preview thumbnail.
Then select all similar type materials and adjust any similar settings as necessary.
3) You might be able to setup a replace material table that could take into consideration a different luminosity.
Here is the article to reference on how to use the substitution table during the import/direct link process.

Would you be able to post the surface material settings in Archicad and what it looks like. Can you also include your Sunlight settings (Ctrl+Shift+F3 > Sunlight) for reference as it could be adjusted in Archicad to make them look more like it comes into Twinmotion by default.
Could you also show an image that shows what it looks like in Twinmotion?
Maybe just adjusting the exposure and brightness of the scene could resolve this?
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Kind regards,
Vincent B.
Hi Vincent,
Thanks for looking into this for me. I’ve made a side-by-side study of the same materials in Archicad and Twinmotion as you suggested.
I use a material library in ArchiCAD that makes extensive use of custom bitmap images. This is probably part of the problem. Some materials here are very close as you’ve said, while others are a bit brighter or a bit darker. In reality, the programs are so different in the way they handle the light and materials that it really doesn’t make much sense to compare them too closely.
However, your tip on how to select all the Archicad materials in Twinmotion and change their luminosity in one go is really helpful. I can quickly make any adjustments I need from that palette and carry on from there.
Thanks again,
David
Hello ,
Thank you for the follow-up and posting the image showing the comparison. It helps to see the difference you are referencing. I am also glad to hear my tip suggestion is helpful.
You are correct both programs work differently and understanding where the settings are will help get the materials looking the way you want. If you have any suggestions for improving the workflow you can submit ideas on the road-map here: https://portal.productboard.com/7pu88c9kpmqtzt8hwg6arujh/tabs/4-under-consideration
