Oh ■■■■ Dev.Leo this is incredibly naive to read. Who would render, build or compile anything with this? A Ryzen or Nvidia is the only answer for quality content, even now. What do I want with a Macbook or any other Apple product besides of paying a way too high price for acceptable technical standards? In my eyes Apple doesnt - and will never be - a good way to present your programmed work. It
s hilarious to see you trying to defend an overpriced brand and yourself while the defense is already broke down. In my opinion Silicon is nice. But thats it. Also spiders are nice but I would never touch one and so it is with the Silicon. No matter what chips are built in by Apple, keep in mind they are Apple chips. And if Apple wants to go absolute solo in terms of own adapters, chips and system, do so but don
t expect developers to give up on way better populated systems like Windows.

New community “Mac Games” crated on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/macgames/
For those jealous who keep saying that Mac not for gaming:
If M1 just punched your face, don’t cry out for now, waiting for the next punch from M1X.

Diablo 3 running on a M1 13inch-MBP on native resolution 2560x1660 under Rosetta
**Witcher 3 **runningunder CrossOver from windows-Steam on native resolution too.
Yes AAA games already running well on a light weight 13inch-MacBook without any optimize.
A 13inch MBP could run Witcher 3 on CrossOver which means it running a PC AAA game without any optimize directly. There is no need to wait for optimizations because the power is higher enough.
The next coming truth is: When M1X released it already could running 90% AAA game exist on windows without optimized. Also without any overheat trouble. The power per watt is enough.
And the new desk level Mac could run any PC game even under crossover without any optimized. Because it is faster enough.
Yes, Mac can run AAA PC game directly. It that shock enough?
@Dev.Leo Hi Not just the M1x but their own arm gpu chip. I am reading a Bloomberg report of 32 High Performance GPU cores
UE4 4.19.2 works with MacBook M1 - with graphic glitches some times, 4.26 will crash after lauching the editor. Graphic performance is ok-ish.
No an ap.ple fan. But it was obvious from many years that when arm and risc-v processors are scaled as much as the x86 processors, they can match performace of intel and amd at less power.
Int.el and amd processors are not real x86. Their cpu’s have unique internal architectures with a x86 ISA transalation layers. So there is a power/performace loss. (I’m no expert. Read somewhere years back)
Arm and Risc-v a bit more modern, while x86 carry some baggage of being legacy (run 16 bit code etc). So once arm ecosystem matures (os, softwares. Linux!) they can make layers for arm/risc-v with better performace at lower wattage with their present internal architectures itself.
Amd intially wanted to design a arm cpu in 2012 but Jim Keller. oriented them to use their existing blocks and make zen (ryzen). They had a arm cpu k12 in labs developed along with zen thought it was never released. Word is that they are still developing it.
There was no company before that had adequate resource to build desktop class cpu (money, talents and decades of research). Also there was the possibility that the duopoly of intel-amd and their constant research might make any new product irrelevent. (zen’s sudden success madeCavium’s arm designs obsolate). Ibm had their ‘power’ so they never bothered here.
**The MI is just a laptop class cpu. But the real threat is coming next year with ap.ple 16 cores (+4 little cores) and may be a 28 core in 2022. **
Having real competion between vendors is good for us customers as we will have multiple choices for processors, and gpu (4 vendors including intel and apple). It will be like in the the 90’s (have read that there were many vendors who sold x86 cpu!)
Edit: Ultimately who is the winner will come down to who did the best engineering and not ISA (only little relevance)
My only real concern is this:
Once your CPU/GPU dies, Apple will force you to buy an entire desktop to replace the old one and if your current machine is over 5 years old they will push OS updates that are going to slow your hardware down, again, forcing you to upgrade.
Please prove I am wrong and Apple doesn’t do that. **
I used Apple hardware for 5 years.
You are absolutely right about apple! They care nothing about customer or the evironment. It all about about profits.
Perhaps a bigger issue with gaming on the mac is the inevitable walled garden. Looking at ios… only games from the AppStore can run.
Is the AppStore coming to the mac soon? There is already the new Gatekeeper hardware built-in: Safely open apps on your Mac - Apple Support
Now as the line between games/apps/books/movies continues to blur… Imagine if only “AppStore Authorized” books or movies were allowed? Or you could only visit web pages from the “Authorized Web Store”…
Scary stuff.
Consumers should be able to buy/use whatever Games, Apps, Books, Movies, Web Pages they want from whatever store they want.
The last good Apple product was the Apple II.
Thanks for taking the time to tell us how much you hate Apple. Really useful contribution. If you want a McDonalds you have to go to a McDonalds. Other burgers are available elsewhere.
when there are other arm cpu like Amber Altra (basic model, best to come yet) which can outperform even the best and latest amd epic cpu who needs apple?
Like Apple or not we do need them, they have shown what can be achieved with handheld devices(smartphones/tablets) and now have demonstrated that you can have a fan-less laptop that is crazy powerful. Their practices may be questionable but tell me a tech giant that is not?
Can’t wait to see their desktops…
x86 is in big trouble, fastest computer in the world ARM based, x86 defeated in the mobile space perfect pincer movement.
So as the OP says end the war.
Thank you!
In my 17-18 years editing videos I have used PC, Mac, and the occasional turn-key custom system. In all my time editing, I have never had someone come and tell that it would have been a better video if I had just used _____ (insert whatever system you prefer). NEVER. I imagine that it would be the same for video games as well.
While out of office, It’s not unusual for me and my colleagues to charge their M1Max powered MacBook Pro laptop overnight and then have a well productive day wherever day takes us: office, train, coffee shop, meeting clients all while working on highly intensive multimedia and 3d applications of other providers. In case of work in UE5 where only viable option is to unfortunately use the Windows laptop number one obsession is to scan the room for available outlets as well as desks since the Windows x86 powered laptops usually have laughable 30-40 minutes of battery capacity while sounding like a rocket ready for take off with all fans spinning to keep the sauna processor temperature down. So this is not simply a fashion/styling choice, rather extremely practical advantage of using this specific hardware. There really shouldn’t be reason why UE wouldn’t be able to perform well too if there’s will to port it.
