Apex cloth import problems after 4.14

Hi everyone!

I’m having some weird problem importing apex cloth from maya into the engine after the switch to physx 3.4, I updated my plug-in, reskinned the cloth mesh to make sure no vertices had more than 4 influencing bones then I painted the cloth, ran the simulation and exported the cloth same as always without any errors, but this time when I import the apx into UE4 the “apex details” shows nothing, which to my knowledge means its not treating it as a cloth file.

I had been able to do the whole process without any problem for a bunch of characters before but I’ve spent a week trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong this time and I’m out of ideas!

I’m using maya 2016 exension 1 sp 6
and the physx plug-in version is 4.0.00910
UE version is 4.14.1

happy holidays!

I’ve got a file that causes the exact same problem here.
A solution would be very useful. I’m creating the Cloth File with 3ds max 2017 SP2+APEX Plug-In 4.0.
Except that case every other file worked well.

This Solution does not work…

I do Your followings.
but, it does works. is there any other Solutions?

i follow your instructions(Update 3ds max 2017 SP2 & APEX Plug-In 4.0) and Make Plain With Physx.
but it doesn’t work…
Is there any other Solutions?? Please…

I’ve meant that I’ve got the same problem with only one asset while others worked well.

Edit: I’ve also get 3ds max freezes when creating new Cloth assets if anyone knows a solution for that bug.

I sort of managed to fix it, by downgrading to an older version of the plug in then going back to the latest version and when it asks me to reset the settings I told it not to.

now I can export the cloth, but I am having some weird simulation errors in certain parts where it seems the cloth is simulating upside down (???) but at least i managed to get it in engine

I have the same issue. I have 2 cloth pieces, one exports fine with no problem, the other exports but in UE4 the details information is blank and won’t load as a cloth file. I’m using Maya with the APEX 1.4.0 SDK, which is the latest plugin for Maya. I’m guessing this is a Nvidia plugin problem. Any help would be great though.

What are your apex export settings? Can you show a screenshot of the exporter window from maya?

Me too, the (bad… so bad!!!) workaround is :

  • Uninstall Apex v4.0 for 3dsmax 2017
  • Install Apex 3.x for 3dsmax 2017
  • Add your new cloth asset
  • Uninstall Apex v3.x for 3dsmax 2017
  • Install Apex 4.0 for 3dsmax 2017
  • Do your work with the cloth assets and export

Well I did exactly this and I’ve encountered the UE import problem on some other assets. This really needs to be fixed.
